CRUISE THE AVENUE - AUGUST 16TH, 2025 - CANCELLED
The cruise night in downtown Yakima scheduled for Saturday, August 16th has been cancelled. This difficult decision has been made in the interest of public safety due to ongoing impacts resulting from an officer-involved shooting incident on August 9th.
When a cruise night occurs, the number of officers above those normally on shift is increased. The August 9th incident has impacted YPD staffing availability. At this time, officers are not available to staff the scheduled cruise night this Saturday. Cancelling the cruise night will allow YPD officers on duty this Saturday to focus on priority calls without the additional responsibility of managing the cruise night.
The YPD and the City of Yakima thank the community, especially regular cruisers, for their continued support and for understanding why this Saturday's cruise night has been cancelled.

Thank you brothers for your service. What some don’t understand is, while protecting all of us, all of you now have to live with this the rest of your life. Knowing you took a life in the performance of your duties. This wasn’t your choice to make. This man chose suicide and he didn’t have the courage himself so he chose to put it on the conscious of all of these officers and the officers that were there, whether they fired or not. As a part of law enforcement, when something happens to one, it happens to all. I feel for you all. This isn’t something a sane person chooses to do, take someone’s life, and shouldn’t ever have to be put on the conscious and now to live with or be put into a position to have to make that choice. I’m so glad all of you are okay and our other partner is recovering. I’m very sorry to those children who lost both their parents that day by the actions and decisions of one guy. Im grateful for that strength as well, but what about prevention? How about pouncing on this shit before it happens? Because from where I'm standing gang violence, open air drug use in our parks etc, is winning. Its time to go back to being proactive; get the hell out there and beat them back before we're over run and become another Los Angeles!!

Police not just being mean . what they are saying is they are understaffed. Chances are some officers are on administrative leave due to to the incident which is common practice therefore there will not be enough officers to cover the cruise area. Hopefully everyone has common sense to understand that
They do have the old cruising laws don’t they. If you go by a place a certain number of times in a certain time frame that was consider cruising. Plus they are taking your safety in mind and probably taking officer safety in mind just in case there is retailation.

I missed the good old days when we didn't need to have dates scheduled. We just did it. And on the weekdays, in the summertime, as kids, we did it too with no issues. Dislike the way things are now. We were bumper to bumper hanging out of the windows. Having a hell of a time, just can't do that no more.
